HELP WANTED

“Help Wanted”:

The ad called for a fire fighter, who had a positive impact on ones’ life.  Would it be Greg, the chief who gave me a chance?  How about Rodney, one of the battalion chiefs?  It must be Paul, the assistant chief, who encouraged me to become a first responder. What about Jason G, who seems to live at the fire department?  Maybe it should be Shane, the other battalion chief, who watches my back.  Could it be Dicky, our resident EMT? How about Pete, Billy, Jason C., Harold, or Jarret? What about Jeromy, my safety officer who takes good care of me?  Maybe it should be Melissa, who stands up for herself and the team?  Should it be Jerry or  Jeff?  How can one decide???  Then, it must be the entire team of Norton Branch Fire-Rescue for…….

Early in the morning or in the darkest hour, these are the men and women that answer the call 24 hours a day in the Rush area?  They are the members of the Norton Branch Fire-Rescue.

Whether fighting a fire, saving someone from a car wreck, helping restore an electrical line, or helping cleanup after a flood, these volunteers are there.  Tirelessly, they work throughout the day and night to make their community and surrounding communities a safer place to live.  They are there for the sick and injured as well as the young and old. These brothers don’t look to be called heroes.  They are the volunteers coming from all walks of life, who dedicate and give of themselves.

Even when the job is done, they know that the tones will once again ring.  In a split second, they will leave their jobs and families, not knowing what they will face, but knowing someone needs help.

They call each other brothers and sisters, and their bond is strong.  They depend on and care for each other.  To them, it is not a club or organization.  It is a family, which comes together to care, share, laugh, cry, and live the life of a firefighter.

This is my family, the ones who made a positive impact on my life, and I am proud to be a member of the Norton Branch Fire-Rescue.
